Every time I remove a tick from my dog, I think of my experience with Lyme disease. It's a bacteria infection from tick bites. I didn't see the tick that bit me, but I remember feeling like I had the flu, with chills and body aches, and a special rash that went up my arm. Strong antibiotics made me better, but some people aren't so lucky. Lyme disease can make you feel like you have the flu, and it can cause a rash. If it's not treated right away, it can cause tiredness, body aches, or nerve problems later on. Every year in the US, many people find out they have Lyme disease. The number is growing as ticks spread. In the US, there are no vaccines to stop Lyme disease. But maybe soon there will be. Scientists are also trying to prevent the disease. It's a fight against strong bacteria and the ticks that carry them.
